Meeting Claire Coutinho (MP)
Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting Claire Coutinho MP.
We were able to discuss our current operations at J & J Franks and present our future plans for Mercers Quarry.
We were delighted that she took such an interest in our environmental measures and ensuring that our operations cause minimal impact locally.
Some of the environmental enhancements that we have implemented include;
- Planting over 30,000 trees
- Locating a number of bat boxes
- Implementing reptile refugia
- Working with Surrey volunteers in improving conservation in the Queen Elizabeth Grove
Claire Countinho posted the following message on her Facebook page in regards to her visit to Franks;
“Last week, I visited Peter and George of family-run business J & J Franks Ltd at Mercers Quarry which, as some of you may know, is actually the largest deposit of soft sand in the South East.
I thanked them for ensuring that HGVs use the main roads and for protecting the local environment and wildlife, including planting 30,000 trees on their land.
A brilliant example of a thriving local business supporting the local community and how HGV movements can work if they’re using the right roads and are not excessive.
J & J Franks have been part of the community for over 80 years, and I look forward to working with them in the future.”

We will continue to work with her, local organisations and the community as a whole.
